Town of GREENFIELD

TOG Fall Festival Offers Trick or Treats, Contests and Entertainment for All Ages

If you are looking for fall harvest-themed fun, Greenfield will hold its Fall Festival on Oct. 20 at Brookhaven Golf Course. The event includes an Oktoberfest 5K at 10 a.m. and is followed by a full afternoon including: trick or treating to decorated golf carts sprinkled on the course, Giant Pumpkin and donut eating contests, live music, food specials, a live animal show and more. The afternoon festivities are from 1 to 5 p.m. at Brookhaven Golf Course, 333 Alpine Meadows Rd., Porter Corners.

Interested businesses, families and other groups may reserve a golf cart to decorate and hand out candy. Call 518-893-7432, ext. 307 to reserve a cart and participate in the fun. No registration is necessary to attend the free event. Hundreds attended last year and carts featured Halloween-inspired decorations from the Greenfield Ambulance team with a fully decorated ambulance, to residents and local businesses setting up decorated cherry pickers with candy chutes and full pirate scenes with ships and graveyards.

“Creativity flourished last year and children loved the trick or treating path,” said Recreation Director Jennifer Zeisler. “Parents enjoy The View Restaurant and bar, as well as grab and go specialty foods on the grounds. We are delighted to have added a live animal encounter for the children later in the afternoon to give families a reason to stay and enjoy the festive community atmosphere.”

After the trick or treating from 1- 3 p.m., there will be a live animal show from “Unchartered Wild Animals,” featuring interactive encounters with reptiles, furry creatures and more. There will be a live band performing from 1-5 p.m. and Greenfield Rec will be holding multiple contests with fun prizes including its Giant Pumpkin contest, a donut eating contest and awards for themed golf carts. Families are encouraged to vote for the winners. The View Restaurant will feature many food and drink specials in the onsite restaurant, on its patio as well as grab and go options outside.

At 10 a.m. the town will hold an “Oktoberfest 5K,” to benefit its Brookhaven Winter Park, when the golf course and park property turns into 20 kilometers of free groomed cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails each winter. Registration is $25 at skireg.com. The 5K course meanders throughout the wooded ski trails. A 1K “fun run” for kids is scheduled at 11 a.m. and its registration will be onsite.

“The town is delighted to offer this day of free fun to our residents and neighbors,” said Town Supervisor Kevin Veitch. “We have enjoyed watching this event grow to become a day of celebrating and enjoying our Greenfield community.”

The Town of Greenfield is home to 8,200 residents and spans more than 41,000 acres of land, making it the largest town in Saratoga County, by square mile. O.B. Beyer Recreation Park Inc., an employee organization of the International Paper Mill in Corinth, N.Y., opened the Brookhaven facility in 1960 and donated it to the Town in 2011. Brookhaven is a municipal golf course that sits in the foothills of the Adirondacks, in Porter Corners, just minutes from Saratoga Springs. Its slogan, “Not your ordinary walk in the woods,” refers to the mission of preserving the natural integrity of the 395-acres of land, while making it available to residents for recreational use throughout the year. The fall festival event started during the COVID-19 pandemic to offer residents safe trick or treating.
